Virus, the worst experience for computer users. Not being able to do your everyday computer tasks is a tradgedy. But the Ubuntu or Linux users don't experience viruses very much.Only the windows users.
Actually there are only few options left if your PC is infected with a virus. The best option is formatting your drivers and re installing the operating system.Other few options can be listed as below.
- Using a Rescue Disk from an antivirus
- Using a live version of Ubuntu or Linux with antivirus pre-installed
- Connecting the infected HDD to a PC that has an active up to date antivirus
Using a rescue disc is a very good option. But it can't guarantee 100% virus removal. You have to download the latest version of Rescue disc to get the best result. Many antivirus software companies provide rescue discs for free.Search for Kaspersky,Tend Micro,Comodo rescue discs.First download the image file to a non infected PC and burn it to a CD or a DVD.Boot your PC from the rescue disc and scan for viruses.
The next option available is using a live version of Linux with antivirus installed.Use Ubuntu LiveCDCustomization to create your disc.Make sure you add an antivirus guard for the disc. Then boot your infected PC with this CD and try Ubuntu without installing it.There you can find the antivirus you added to the CD.Run the antivirus and remove the viruses.Make sure you update the antivirus.
The next and the last option is connecting the infected HDD to a PC that has an active ,up to date antivirus guard. This step is a little bit risky.Because the virus may spread to the second PC as well. But this threat is minimized because the operating system will install the drivers for your infected HDD after the antivirus is started. You can eliminate this threat completely if the infected HDD has SATA interface.SATA interface has Plug and Play capability. So connect your infected HDD after the antivirus of second PC is completely started.Make sure the virus guard is up to date.
I've always wondered this when you said in your first paragraph that if you use Ubuntu or Linux, you're more likely to be virus-free than easily getting a virus on a PC. Why in the world are there more viruses that are easier to get for PC's? I wonder if there's something going on behind the curtains of who creates these viruses for business advantages. At any rate, I really appreciate these detailed tips on how to get the right software to get rid of viruses. If I can't figure it out on my own, should I consider taking my computer into a place to get it removed?
